Under the Mangala Livestock Insurance Scheme 2025-26, livestock owners in Rajasthan are being provided with free insurance. Eligibility, registration, insurance amount, coverage, claim process, and key dates are provided.
Registration for the Chief Minister Mangla Livestock Insurance Scheme (2025–26) run by the Government of Rajasthan has begun. This scheme provides financial security to farmers and livestock keepers in case of accidental livestock death, and it is completely free of cost.
This year, the scheme is being implemented on a “first come, first served” basis. The state-wide target is 4.2 million registrations across Rajasthan, so eligible livestock keepers are requested to complete registration in time.
Objective of the Scheme
The objective of the scheme is to reduce the financial burden on livestock keepers caused by the death or sudden loss of animals. Animals such as cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, and camels play a vital role in the livelihood of livestock-rearing families. If an animal dies suddenly for any reason, the government provides an insurance amount under this scheme.
Eligibility and Covered Animals
- Eligible beneficiaries: Livestock keepers who are residents of Rajasthan and have a Jan-Aadhaar card. Animals already insured under other schemes will not be covered under this scheme.
- An animal must have a 12-digit ear tag to be eligible. If the tag is lost, the insurance department must be informed immediately, and a new tag can be obtained within 1 day.
- Maximum number of animals covered: Up to 2 milch cows or buffaloes, 10 goats/10 sheep, and 10 camels.
- Age limits: Cow 3–12 years, buffalo 4–12 years, female goat/sheep 1–6 years, and camel 2–15 years.
- To avail the benefit, the livestock keeper’s annual income must be less than ₹8 lakh.
✍️ How to Register
- You can get official information on the scheme website: mmpby2526.rajasthan.gov.in. The website also provides a Google Play link for the approved Android app.
- Online registration can be done via the mobile app 📲 (Mangla Livestock Insurance App) or through an e-Mitra center.
- Registration is free, and selection this year will be on a “first come, first served” basis.
- Register using your Jan-Aadhaar number, bank account details, and mobile number. Upload a clear photo of the animal with the 12-digit ear tag clearly visible.
- Keep the mobile number (linked with Jan-Aadhaar and bank account) active for OTP verification to avoid any interruption in the application process.
Animal Valuation
The insured amount is determined based on the animal’s milk production and breed. As per the scheme guidelines:
- Milch cow: Minimum ₹3,000 per liter per day basis, maximum ₹40,000 per animal.
- Milch buffalo: Minimum ₹4,000 per liter per day basis, maximum ₹40,000 per animal.
- Female goat/sheep: Maximum ₹4,000 per animal.
- Camel (male/female): Maximum ₹40,000 per animal.
- The valuation done by the veterinarian will be considered final, and the insured amount will be fixed accordingly.
Coverage (When Insurance is Payable)
Under this scheme, the insurance amount is payable not only for animal death but also for natural and accidental events. The covered events as per insurance guidelines include:
- Death due to natural causes.
- Fire, road accidents, lightning, or natural disasters (flood, storm, etc.).
- Death due to consumption of poisonous grass.
- Death due to snakebite or insect bite.
- Death due to a serious illness.
Claim Procedure
If an insured animal dies, the following steps should be taken:
- Inform immediately: Right after the animal’s death, call the 181 helpline or inform the nearest e-Mitra center/government veterinary hospital.
- Survey and post-mortem: The insurance company’s surveyor and the veterinarian will inspect the dead animal, and the veterinarian will prepare the post-mortem report.
- Fill the claim form: Obtain the claim form from the insurance company surveyor or the government veterinary hospital. Fill in the required details and attach the post-mortem report, photo of the dead animal (ear tag must be clearly visible), bank account details, Aadhaar/Jan-Aadhaar card, and insurance policy number.
- Time limit: The claim form must be submitted within 21 days of the animal’s death.
- Claim settlement: After verification of all documents, the insurance amount will be credited to the livestock keeper’s bank account. As per guidelines, payment is to be made within 21 working days.
Important Dates and Precautions
- Registration for the 2025–26 session started from 20 November 2025. Since the “first come, first served” principle is applicable, apply as early as possible.
- Ensure there are no errors in Jan-Aadhaar details, bank account, and mobile number. Keep the OTP-enabled mobile number active.
- Keep the animal’s ear tag safe; if it is lost, inform the department immediately.
- The insurance policy is valid for one year. If ownership of the animal changes (sale/gift), the insurance will automatically terminate.
